All Gave Some, Some Gave All: Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day holds such a special place in my heart, because for the entirety of my life I have been surrounded by those who have served or are currently serving in our military. I have seen many go to fight and defend our freedom, but few return.

Too many of us forget why we celebrate Memorial Day. Many of us barbecue, party and drink most of the day without even taking a moment to really think about why we have the day off from work. Some people don’t even get the day off.

I found a quote that I think does a great job at defining what Memorial Day is and why we recognize it:

“Memorial Day is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of the more than one million Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen who have made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom”

-General Norton Schwartz

I am forever indebted to the brave men and women who risk their lives for my loved ones. They march into battle not knowing whether they will come through unscathed, putting their lives before our own. They are selfless. They are brave. They are heroes.
8bb7eda193112b39b2dedafdd5d69ab7As President Harry S. Truman so eloquently stated years before:

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. American will never forget their sacrifices”

For those who have given and those who continue to give, I thank you from the deepest depth of my heart. Because of the Brave, I am free.

Let us not just thank a veteran and active military personnel on Memorial Day, rather let us thank them daily for their current and past sacrifices.

Again, thank you and God Bless.
