I am usually very in-tune with my body, but since I got pregnant, my body is experiencing many things that it (and I) are not accustomed to. This past Monday, I had my first “real” health scare that landed me in the ER. While at work, I started feeling nauseous which also caused my ears to start throbbing. Standing up, I began walking to the restroom thinking I had to throw up (even though I hadn’t experienced morning sickness in weeks). As I passed the first office, I lost my vision. There I stood, blinded, scared…I remembered when I was walking out of my office that a co-worker was walking near me so I called her name. I heard her ask if I was ok, and put her hands on my shoulders. My vision came back after about 10-15 seconds, and there she was, standing in front of me. As if she knew exactly what was going on, she walked me back to my office and had me sit. I was crying, over-heating, confused and panicking. What had just happened? She told me it would be a good idea to call my doctor, which I immediately did. Thinking this episode was pregnancy related, I called my OBGYN and they told me to come in @ 2:45pm because they wanted to check and make sure I was ok. The day went on as normal without further symptoms up until about 1:40 when the same thing happened. Luckily, this time I was sitting at my desk and a co-worker was there. I immediately called my sister and asked her to pick me up. Something was wrong. When we got to the doctor, they immediately told me to go to the ER. After 6.5 hours in the ER and after having a drunk guy stumble onto me (sadly, this is not a joke to lighten the mood), the doctor was kind of at a loss as to what initially caused the episode. I had a slight temperature, my blood pressure was slightly low and I was dehydrated but he didn’t know why I was suffering from a headache. One of which I have had for nearly 3 weeks. I’m at a loss as well, but I do realize how important it is for me to take better care of myself..and our baby. The baby will take the nutrients I eat, depleting me of the nutrients I also very much need. After an IV, Tylenol and Benadryl I was sent on my way with hardly any answers. I haven’t lost my vision since Monday afternoon, but I also haven’t felt like myself. I am trying to be more in-tune with my body taking into consideration all of the changes I am going through during this pregnancy. I do not want to harm myself or the baby, and I know my husband already worries, so I plan on doing research on the symptoms I experienced and implement an action plan to prevent them from occurring again. This will alleviate some of Jason and my concerns and ease our minds a bit. Although, this pregnancy hasn’t been the easiest, we both know how blessed we are to be having our miracle baby in a few short months.
Any expecting or current moms who have experienced any of the symptoms I experienced on Monday, PLEASE feel free to offer insight.
Until next time,
