Holiday Gift Guide for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kids
As a mother of a deaf child, I’ve compiled some of the best tools and toys I’ve used to help him develop his speech. Some of the tools I’ve included in this guide has helped to develop his sign language whereas others have helped to develop his spoken language. Some of these tools have helped tremendously for helping him learn his LING sounds which helps to create the foundation of speech for him as well as 50+ words so far in the 14 months since activation. Self-Correcting Alphabet Letter Puzzle
This is a great tool to teach kids their ABC’s as well as words associated with that letter.
Sign Language: My First 100 Words
This book is a great tool to teach kids their first 100 words in sign language. They’re each to learn and so useful.
Uncle Goose American Sign Language Blocks
This set of blocks is so beautiful and fun to use to spell words both in ASL and English.
This is another great tool to teach kids first words. It’s interactive and fun.
These flashcards make learning ASL easy and fun.
Educational Color & Recognition Skill Matching Eggs
This is a great tool for kids to learn this colors and match shapes.
LeapFrog Learning Friends 100 Words Book
This tool helps kids learn words through interaction and fun.
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Piggy Bank
This is the #1 tool I use personally to help my son learn his LING sounds. I say the LING sound I want him to say and wait for him to repeat it. Once he repeats it, he puts it in the piggy bank. It’s a fun, interactive game.
This fun tool teaches kids both their colors and their numbers with this adorable hedgehog.
Another great way for deaf and hard of hearing children to learn words is through songs and rhyming, so by incorporating rhyming books into their daily reading, will help them exponentially.
Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks
These are another great resource for learning ABC’s and words and animals associated with those letters. Plus, these cardboard blocks stack high and will keep kids entertain for hours!
Not only do these fun blocks teach your kids their colors and shapes, but I used them to teach my son his LING sounds.
This card set includes 62 pictures and words to help develop speech. Add the ALS for it and combine the best of both worlds.
Dealing in Feelings Therapy Cards
26 different emotions are depicted on these cards to help children specifically improve their ability to recognize and express emotions.
This is another great tool to help with LING sounds as well as colors and shapes.
